Digital technology is changing the way we think about and make art. The classic image of the artist is no longer representative in an age of virtual and augmented reality art forms – and even fine artists these days increasingly rely on instagram and social media to generate awareness about their work. At the same time, new technologies are also changing the way we organise our communities and societies. But where do these changes lead us? Towards a greater sense of connectedness? Or to atomisation and fragmentation? These are the questions we explored in our PARALLEL residency.

PARALLEL provided the opportunity for 16 artists based in Georgia and Germany to collaborate across disciplines in the framework of a dual residency. It was organised by Lernlabor, Propaganda Network and the Laboratory of Sonic Arts. The project was funded through the Meet UP! Youth for Partnership programme of the Foundation EVZ. After exchanging ideas online, participants in both countries continued their collaboration during the dual residencies in Schloss Schönow near Berlin and in Fabrika Tbilisi from the 15th – 21st November. The results were showcased in a series of installations and cross streamed live performances.
