Rhythms of Movement: Dancing and Movement for Community Well-being

Rhythms of Movement

Dancing and Movement for Community Well-being

Rhythms of Movement was a European Solidarity Corps project that used dance and movement as tools to promote well-being, inclusion, and community building in Berlin. The project created a welcoming space where newcomers, international students, migrants, and local residents could connect through creative movement, reduce feelings of isolation, and strengthen their sense of belonging.

Throughout the project, participants took part in a diverse programme of workshops, movement courses, and community events exploring contemporary dance, improvisation, body awareness, and creative expression. Open to people of all experience levels, the activities encouraged participants to build confidence, develop meaningful social connections, and experience dance as a tool for personal growth and intercultural exchange. By bringing people together through movement, the project fostered an inclusive community where creativity, well-being, and mutual support could flourish.

An Invitation to Dance

Phyto-Somatic Dance Party

Threshold Dance

With Emmanouela Korki

An Invitation to Dance introduced participants to contemporary dance through body awareness, breath, and creative movement. Beginning from the floor, participants felt the support of the ground, sensed their inner bodies, connected with their breath, and acknowledged their presence between earth and sky. Through specific exercises, small dance combinations, and playful improvisational scores, they explored shapes, levels, speeds, gravity, and momentum while expanding their movement vocabulary. The workshop cultivated awareness, creativity, teamwork, and the joy of dancing in its purest form.

Phyto-Somatic Dance Party invited participants to explore what is inside of us through a unique combination of comparative microbiology and dance. Blending phyto-somatic and folk approaches to movement, the workshop encouraged participants to relax, move, and sweat while discovering new sources of personal and collective movement and relatedness. Through hands-on exercises and guided improvisation, participants developed a deeper awareness of cellular intelligence and a transgressive sense of community. Dance and music became tools for moving beyond bodily contours, creating a boundless community of pulses, waves, and flows.

Threshold Dance was a multi-week movement programme combining weekly sessions with themed weekend workshops exploring contemporary dance and performance art. Through guided improvisation, physical awareness, and collaborative movement practices, participants developed their own movement language while building a shared culture of curiosity, trust, and respect. The programme explored movement in nature, group dynamics, and storytelling, while also introducing techniques for stress relief, self-massage, and mobility. Open to all experience levels, it encouraged creativity, connection, and the joy of movement.

Transformational Rave

With Katarzyna Paluch & Aaron Lang

Improbable Lifts was a two-day workshop exploring improvised partnering through play, experimentation, and non-verbal communication. Participants developed the skills and confidence needed for experimental partnering before applying them in guided improvisations that encouraged spontaneity, creativity, and shared decision-making. Embracing the aesthetics of failure, the workshop redefined success through joyful collaboration, where bodies moved together in unexpected ways and moments of trust, connection, and creative discovery emerged through movement.

Shapes to Travel invited participants to explore the body as something constantly moving, expanding, compressing, and transforming. Through contemporary dance, participants discovered new connections, movement qualities, and choreographies while developing balance, coordination, and body awareness. Drawing on Release Technique, Viewpoints, and Contact Improvisation, the workshop encouraged functional, expressive, and imaginative movement in a creative and supportive environment.

Transformational Rave invited participants to explore movement as a response to exhaustion, using repetitive dance, music, and intuitive movement to create space for reflection and transformation. Through collective movement and focused attention, the workshop encouraged participants to experience change within themselves while contributing to a shared sense of connection, care, and collective energy. Dance became a tool for imagining new possibilities, fostering resilience, and celebrating the power of moving together.
