Lernlabor has
three main areas of focus
We provide young people with the skills, tools and support structures to strengthen their active citizenship and participation in democratic life.
We run local and international projects, co-designed by young people, that engage with issues that are relevant to youth.
From our local climbing projects in Berlin, to international expeditions in Norway, Spain and Ukraine, Outdoor Education is one of our core activities.
We train outdoor leaders and cooperate with professional outdoor educators and guides to offer a wide of activities for all levels of experience, ranging from novice to advanced.
We organise local and international residencies for emerging artists in addition to training courses for youth workers and educators focusing on art and culture as a tool for non-formal education and youth work.
Our goal is for these three areas to complement each other synergistically through forging connections between grassroots initiatives at the local level, educational cooperation at the international level, and the sphere of policymaking.

For the Training Course - "Climb beyond borders: fostering community and connection between the EU and neighbouring countries."

More: This 8 day Training Course in Georgia will provide the necessary hard skills and pedagogical approaches to use outdoor education and climbing as an effective tool for forging community development and building sustainable professional connections between youth workers and civil society organisations in the European Union and neighbouring countries. The project will be based in the Sveri Adventure Camp in the Imereti region of Georgia.
The project aims to:
- contribute to further develop the recognition of Outdoor Education, non-formal education in both the EU and neighbouring countries within the frame of the Erasmus+ programme.
- create the foundations for developing quality partnerships and projects between professionals and civil society organisations in Erasmus+ programme and partner countries.
- equip participants with an effective and exciting tool (specifically community climbing) to enrich their professional profiles and enable them to offer attractive and relevant activities to diverse target groups in their everyday youth work.
Through participating in this project participants will:
- Understand how to use climbing as an effective tool in non-formal and experiential education
- Gain practical understanding of the management processes for organizing a group outdoors
- Learn how to promote values of inclusion and diversity through outdoor education methods
- Gain hard skills through being trained to German Alpine Club standards in: Abseiling techniques, Building belay stands, risk analysis and risk management, ropework and rescue techniques
- Gain theoretical and practical understanding of group dynamics in Outdoor Education
- Learn how to give and receive feedback and to use reflection as a pedagogical tool
- Embark on a journey of personal development through stepping outside of their comfort zone and exploring new ways of learning how to learn. - Benefit from an environment of peer learning
- Gain an understanding of the Erasmus+ Youth, Sport and Adult Education programme and the funding opportunities available within the framework of Key Action 1 and Key Action 2.
Finance:
-Accommodation and food will be fully covered.
- Travel costs will be reimbursed up to the limits of Erasmus+ depending on distance travelled.

INTER(RELATION) PATH is an international project focusing on artistic research as a tool for creating an inclusive society. This exchange explores the topic of migration as a means of creation to promote social inclusion and intercultural dialogue.
In continuation of the study visit we have hosted back in early March the ‘INTER(RELATION) PATH” residency took place in Soria, Spain with an aim to explore the themes of migration, integration and social cohesion through research and artistic production.
Soria’s landscape is poetic with its stone and clay architecture that resonates with its resistance history. City is known for the heroic resistance of Numantia when after 13 months of siege, the Numantians decided to burn the city before surrendering it to the Romans.
Through local NGOs and collectives working with a small group of refugees we have deepened our knowledge of migration in Soria and current changes and struggles of the city.
Azahara has told us about exile and depopulation. Soria is the least populated provincial capital of Castile and Leon and the second least populated in Spain. The town faces the problem of empty, vacant flats and migration of young people to bigger nearby cities.
Selected artists created urban interventions with support of the City Council of Soria, confronting the gap created between generations and communities. Local students and professors of Escuela de Arte y Superior de Diseño de Soria were also met by the residents where initiatives for future students’ collaboration arose.
Artworks created during the two week long residency program will be exhibited in Poland from 24th of May

We are so happy to share images of our latest collective journey “Harvesting Hope: Artistic Alchemy and Collective Care for Eco-Social Renewal” that took place in the unique setting of Lutter am Barrengerge, Germany between March 15th to 24th, 2024.
This project focused on the dynamic intersection of Art, Alchemy, and collective Care, drawing inspiration from ancestral and alternative practices while envisioning future scenarios of eco-social renewal.
Participants had the opportunity to explore these topics while actively participating in the alchemical process of artistic creation. Through hands-on collaborative artistic methods, we explored and interacted with Nature, reflecting on the ongoing eco-social crisis to propose new questions and explore other forms of engagement in connection to topics like sustainability, climate change, extractivism, etc.
The collective path was designed as a (co)habiting experience where a program was integrated with reflective transdisciplinary activities on how to shift on present and future scenarios, spaces of creation such as “how to become more ecosystems” or participatory frames for collective creations such the creation of tarot cards based on the eco-social crisis, reflections on post-truth (news) narratives, collective sound and painting creations as well as other artistic experiments taking place outdoors in the natural surroundings. This immersive collaborative path enabled the final creation of collaborative processes experienced by all participants.
The project was designed by Seila Fernández Arconada as a hybrid format, blending elements of a training course and an experimental artistic laboratory.

Back To Nature 3.0 is an international youth exchange for a program country that aims to increase the connection between young people and nature. For many youngsters, everyday stress and online news are overwhelming and result in a negative effect on their well-being. We think that spending time in nature can help us to “charge our batteries” and find inspiration for our lives. Being outdoors can help to achieve inner harmony lead to self-discovery and generally contribute to well-being and a balanced lifestyle. Appreciating nature fosters a deeper understanding of the importance of environmentally sustainable and green Europe, promoting both individual and environmental well-being. The gained knowledge will help us to act as agents of change for environmental and sustainable development.
The project will introduce young participants to a region of Germany that stands out for its natural beauty and ecological diversity. During the process, participants will explore the local environment and each others' cultures in an outdoor setting. At the youth exchange participants will have the opportunity to discuss environmental issues on the local and international levels, do hikes, take part in workshops, meet locals, and organize the open day for the community.
Project objectives:
- To foster a connection between young people and nature and equip participants with practical skills for being outdoors.
- To raise awareness about environmental issues and the importance of sustainable living practices, inspiring participants to become advocates for positive change and living a more sustainable lifestyle.

The Study Visit organised by Lernlabor took place from 28th of February to 2nd of March in Berlin. During this time, we focused on learning about the topic of migration from embodied experiences we all have to conceptual geopolitical reflections. We began learning from all participants both artists and organisers mapping connections between us and migration.
Thanks to Mohamad from Refugee Voices Tour, we had a simulation workshop imagining a hypothetical future Europe where it sees the rise of radical political parties in most of Europe.
As well, we had a day visiting exhibitions connected to the topic where we learnt from local context to international perspectives created by migrant communities. This included the exhibition “We call it Revolution. Transnational Activism in Berlin” at the FHXB Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg Museum, “Between Bridges” by the Kyiv Perennial program part of the 5th Kyiv Biennial, the Documentation Centre for Displacement, Expulsion, Reconciliation and the opening exhibition “Echoes of the Brother Countries” at Haus der Kulturen der Welt.
This ground for collective reflection is the first stage of this project which will continue with a residency in Spain and a final exhibition in Poland.
This Study visit has been facilitated by Seila Fernández Arconada.

which are the participating countries?
Earlier in January, we were so pleased to run the winter collective space “Seeds in the Snow: Winter Artistic Collaborations for a Shared Future” in Nigüelas (Granada, Spain). This project was created to cultivate togetherness through artistic explorations in Nature as a gesture of stewardship for a shared future.
During five-days artists, scientists, youth workers and civil society activists explored the tangled threads of the ecosocial crisis through collective learning inspired by socially engaged art practices. Through hands-on transdisciplinary methods, reflective dialogues and shared rural experiences, we look for artistic “natural” connections between different kinds of knowledge while experiencing togetherness.
During the time together we explored the uncertainties of the contemporary landscapes reflecting on the uncertain times we are living while rethinking about sustainability, climate change, collaboration and Nature among others. From the led presentations and discussions, to activities in the mountains and the local science museum (Parque de las Ciencias de Andalucía) while having local experts like Félix Picazo who shared with us a great lesson about ecology by collaborating with Nature. Also, these five days allowed an immersive (co)habiting experience as we lived together at the Molino while all the exchanged was taking place (listening, talking, drawing, hiking, reading, playing, watching, laughing, thinking, creating… and loads more).
As result, all participants created projects in collaboration to take further ideas and experiment on methodologies for all to experience. In addition, the process became an outcome collected in an “experimental tool guide”, a collective book created out of this project, soon will be published online!
This space was created by Seila Fernández Arconada together with Lernlabor team and the special professional guests as seeds in the snow, participating in this artistic endeavour together.

What a way to start the year! In January we held our Erasmus+ Training Course “Expedition Skills for Outdoor Education” in the beautiful surroundings of the Sierra Nevada.
Under the guidance of our inspiring trainer Rocio Monteoliva Herrera we provided youth workers from Germany, Spain, Greece and Poland with the necessary technical as well as pedagogical skills to plan and implement expeditions in high mountain terrain, ensuring that the Outdoor Education approach can be used to its full potential within the framework of European Youth Work and non-formal education.
Following three days of workshops on snow conditions, avalanche safety, risk assessment and navigation, we completed a winter traverse of the highest peaks of the Sierra Nevada, biwaking at over 3000 meters in the Refugio de la Caldera before summing Mulhacen (3482 meters), the highest mountain on the Iberian peninsula.
The main activities of the training included:

- Ice-axe and crampon techniques
- Self-arrest training
- Improvised harness and self-belay techniques
- Snow conditions and avalanche awareness
- Avalanche Assessment Process & Reduction Method
- Avalanche rescue: beacons, probing and digging
